How did it all begin?
Well, have you ever heard the expression "dreams do come true"?
That
is exactly what happened here. Back in June of 2007, I (Sean) had an
idea which was nothing more than a small bleep on my radar while
brainstorming for new programming on WCWP, Long Island University Radio.
The
idea that the Islanders had a wonderful fan base drove us to believe
that this could work. We also realized that hockey hasn't been getting
the type of media attention that it once did. Suddenly, this idea began
to sound like something that would take off immensely.
Fast forward to August of the same year:
NYI
FYI is approved by WCWP as a program that could begin that fall. It was
time for a co-host. Enter Chris Hessel. Chris and I have known each
other for a great deal of years now, and I knew that with his knowledge
and my "know-how", this show would be something that would make us
both proud.
I never thought it was going to take off so quickly.
NYI
FYI premiered on October 7th, 2007 at 10 PM EST on www.mywcwp.com. The
podcast went up the same night. The fans responded positively.
Since
then, the show has been incredible. We have had Steve Mears, radio
play-by-play voice of the Islanders, on our show to talk New York
Islanders hockey.
And the best part is, it only goes up from here.
We have some big things in store for NYI FYI, so stay tuned, keep listening, and enjoy the site!
